Bring Beauty and Privacy to Your Home with a Custom Fence
Enhance your property with a professionally installed fence that offers durability, style, and security. Whether you’re looking for privacy, protection, or a decorative touch, our expert team provides top-quality craftsmanship tailored to your needs.
Fence Installation & Design
The solid construction of privacy fences form a visual and sound barrier around your garden landscape but also blocks the airflow. A semi-privacy custom fence also blocks sights and sounds, but air can flow through some narrow gaps in the fence. Both privacy and semi-privacy fences are usually constructed of vinyl or wood and can be topped with lattice screens for added interest.
Cider Mill Landscape’s certified designers can help you choose from vinyl, wood, or metal materials. The short, open design of a vinyl or wood picket fence suits cottage or colonial-style landscapes and homes. While post and rail fences are better matched to log cabins or rustic-style houses. Simple metal fences go well with modern landscapes and houses, while the more ornate styles suit colonial or cottage landscapes and houses.
Navigating local building codes and HOA guidelines is crucial for a smooth fence installation process. Our team ensures compliance with height restrictions, boundary laws, and permitting requirements, so you can enjoy a stress-free experience from design to completion.
Work With Our Fence Builders
Whether you want a sturdy black aluminum fence, a warm cedar enclosure, or a classic split-rail design, we’ll craft the perfect solution for your property. We’ll help determine the right materials and placement while ensuring you stay compliant with local regulations.
Fence Materials
Selecting the right fence material impacts the aesthetics, durability, and maintenance of your fence. We specialize in:
- Vinyl Fencing – A low-maintenance, long-lasting option available in various styles and colors.
- Wood Fencing (Cedar & More) – A classic, durable choice with natural beauty and resistance to decay.
- Metal Fencing (Black Aluminum & More) – Sleek, modern, and highly durable, perfect for security and decorative purposes. Metal fences of aluminum, galvanized steel, or wrought iron can vary from simple bars with spear points to ornate scrolled designs.
Types of Fences
Homeowners often seek fencing to enhance privacy, security, and curb appeal. Our most popular options include:
- Decorative Fences – For a more open and inviting appearance, split-rail fencing offers rustic charm—ideal for large properties, farms, and suburban homes. Decorative fences not only enhance curb appeal but also define property boundaries effectively.
- Privacy Fences – Solid panel designs that block visibility, perfect for backyards, patios, and secluded spaces.
- Pool Fences – Essential for safety and legal compliance, designed to protect children and pets while maintaining an elegant look.

FAQs for Custom Fences & More
How long does fence installation take?
Most fence installations take between 1 to 3 days, depending on the size of the project, terrain, and material type. We’ll provide a clear timeline once we assess your property and finalize the design.
Do I need a survey before installing a fence?
A property survey may be required to accurately determine boundary lines before fence installation. If you’re unsure, we can help guide you through that process.
Who handles the permitting for fences?
We typically handle all permitting for fence installations. If a township requires the homeowner to apply directly, we’ll walk you through exactly what’s needed.
What kind of maintenance does a fence require?
Maintenance depends on the material. Wood fences may need sealing or staining, while vinyl and aluminum options are mostly maintenance-free with occasional cleaning.
What is the required height for a pool fence?
Pool fence height requirements vary by township and are based on local building codes. Generally, pool fences must be at least 4 feet tall. Cider Mill will confirm the required height with the local municipality.
Why do I need a landscape designer? Can’t I do this on my own?
In doing this for many years, and living and breathing it every day, there are a lot of things that go into a design. Like every other industry, there are things that an “amateur” or someone that doesn’t design on a daily basis will overlook. There are intricate details that we know to implement into a design. As well as different aspects of nature or a landscape that we know to factor in that a homeowner may not. Especially with outdoors, there are a lot of things to take into consideration.
Do you work with budgets?
We do work with budgets.
Making sure we design to accommodate our clients is a big part of the process.
Can I get an estimate over the phone?
In most cases, the answer is no. We need a site visit and accurate measurements.
Can you perform installations if I already have plans?
Yes, however, we may make suggestions or edits to the plan.
We will not implement another design if we feel like the structural integrity of a project has been compromised or under-engineered. We also will not implement a design that has horticultural or product flaws.
What are your payment terms?
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash and check. If a credit card is requested we charge a 3.5% finance fee (our cost from the merchant service provider.)
What guarantees do you offer on installations?
Most fence installations take between 1 to 3 days, depending on the size of the project, terrain, and material type. We’ll provide a clear timeline once we assess your property and finalize the design.
Are your staff sub-contractors or employees?
All of our staff are employees.
