Cider Mill Landscapes is really proud of the hardscape and landscape design project we just completed in Glen Mills, PA. We began with an area of old-fashioned and pretty outdated red concrete paver squares that were spaced pretty far apart and unevenly laid out. Not only was this surface awkward to walk on, but you can also bet the homeowner found it precarious as well. This jagged surface also made it difficult to put out any chairs or tables too, so the whole area was not conducive to outdoor entertaining.
The existing retaining wall was on one end of this patio. The structure had no capstones to top it off and it had a pretty pedestrian look as it had been built using concrete blocks straight. It certainly did the job of holding dirt in an upper garden back but didn’t add any visual interest to the landscape. You couldn’t sit on the edge or display pretty pots with flowers or plants on it either. At Cider Mill Landscapes we absolutely believe that hardscaping services can both serve a purpose AND be beautiful.

This was by no means a huge project for us. But we knew that even a small space like this could benefit from a well-thought-out design that would give the homeowner a much more practical and beautiful outdoor living space. It would be far more eye-catching, beneficial, and safe. We removed all the red block stepping stones and replaced it with gorgeous natural flagstone in an irregular pattern with a variety of sized stones for a hard-wearing surface that provides solid footing and is easy to maintain.
The retaining wall was dramatically changed with a stacked look utilizing 1”-3” Alverston Boulders and is properly capped off so that friends and family can easily sit on top of it, and even the family dog thinks its nifty! Behind the wall is a newly installed garden area that makes it easy to enjoy the new plantings and it adds plenty of visual appeal.
This hardscape and landscape design now pull together the pergola and deck into one cohesive look that is far more attractive, practical, and perfectly useful. Everything about this Glen Mills, PA, landscape design looks fabulous and it adds value to the home instead of being an eyesore and a footing headache.
