Installing landscape lighting can greatly enhance the beauty and safety of your outdoor spaces. It not only highlights architectural features and garden elements but also extends the usability of your yard into the evening hours. When Cider Mill plans your lighting design, we consider using a mix of path lights, spotlights, and wall-mounted fixtures to create depth and interest. We also ensure that your lights are strategically placed to illuminate key areas without causing glare. With energy-efficient options available, landscape lighting can also be a sustainable choice. Proper installation involves selecting the right fixtures, calculating the necessary wattage, and ensuring safe electrical connections. Types of Landscape Lighting

Pathway Lighting

Installing lighting on outdoor pathways enhances safety and aesthetics while creating a welcoming atmosphere. Cider Mill offers LED fixtures for energy efficiency and longevity. Solar-powered lights are also a great option, requiring no wiring and minimal maintenance. We strategically place lights along the path to illuminate steps and transitions, ensuring visibility during nighttime. Our designer will choose designs that complement your landscape for a cohesive look. Properly installing pathway lighting not only guides guests but also showcases your outdoor space beautifully.

Architectural Uplighting

Installing architectural uplighting can transform the ambiance of a space, highlighting key features and creating an inviting atmosphere. We begin by selecting the right fixtures that complement the architecture. Our team positions lights strategically at the base of walls or columns, directing light upward to accentuate textures and shapes. We ensure proper wiring and placement for even illumination, avoiding harsh shadows. Many clients like dimmers to adjust brightness levels, allowing for flexibility in mood and function. With careful planning and execution, uplighting enhances both interior and exterior designs significantly.

Landscape Lighting

Landscape lighting can transform your outdoor space by highlighting the beauty of plants and trees. Our team can strategically place lights to create stunning visual effects that accentuate the textures and colors of foliage. Uplighting can add drama to tall trees, making them focal points at night, while downlighting can create a soft, moonlit glow on flower beds. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also adds safety and functionality to pathways and outdoor areas, allowing you to enjoy your garden after sunset. Properly chosen fixtures and techniques can bring your landscape to life, creating an inviting atmosphere for gatherings or quiet evenings outdoors.

Patio & Other Outdoor Lighting

We always start by choosing the right fixtures to enhance your patio’s ambiance. Clients often consider string lights for a cozy feel, lanterns for a rustic touch, or stake lights to illuminate pathways. In the design stages, our team thoughtfully plans your layout to highlight key areas like seating, gardens, and walkways. We use weather-resistant materials and energy-efficient bulbs to maximize durability and reduce energy costs. With thoughtful installation, our team can create a beautiful outdoor environment perfect for entertaining or relaxing under the stars.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you use white or warm light?

We use warm, inviting lighting that avoids the harsh, overly bright white light you often see with newer bulbs. Our goal is to create a natural, comfortable glow that enhances your outdoor space without feeling clinical or glaring. We carefully select bulbs that offer the right warmth and ambiance for your landscape.

Are your lighting systems energy-efficient?

Yes, all of our lighting systems use energy-efficient LED technology. These fixtures consume less power, last for 10 years or more, and require minimal maintenance—making them both eco-friendly and cost-effective.

Can the lights change color?

Yes, we offer color-changing lighting options that can be controlled via remote or mobile app. These are perfect for setting moods, highlighting seasonal decor, or creating dynamic nighttime effects in your landscape.

Do you use solar lighting?

We do not use solar lighting, as it tends to be less reliable and inconsistent in performance. For long-term quality and brightness, we install wired LED systems that ensure durability and consistent illumination year-round.

Why do I need a landscape designer? Can’t I do this on my own?

In doing this for many years, and living and breathing it every day, there are a lot of things that go into a design. Like every other industry, there are things that an “amateur” or someone that doesn’t design on a daily basis will overlook. There are intricate details that we know to implement into a design. As well as different aspects of nature or a landscape that we know to factor in that a homeowner may not. Especially with outdoors, there are a lot of things to take into consideration.

Do you work with budgets?

We do work with budgets. Making sure we design to accommodate our clients is a big part of the process.

Can I get an estimate over the phone?

In most cases, the answer is no. We need a site visit and accurate measurements.

Can you perform installations if I already have plans?
Yes, however, we may make suggestions or edits to the plan. We will not implement another design if we feel like the structural integrity of a project has been compromised or under-engineered. We also will not implement a design that has horticultural or product flaws.
What are your payment terms?
For smaller projects, and repeat maintenance clients, payment is due upon completion. For mid-size and larger projects, we take 1/3 up front and the rest upon completion. For projects larger than $50k, we take 1/3 up front, 1/3 when approximately half-way done, and the rest upon completion. Typically we make sure a client is 100% satisfied before taking a final payment.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash and check. If a credit card is requested we charge a 3.5% finance fee (our cost from the merchant service provider.)
What guarantees do you offer on installations?
New plant installations have a one year warranty.
Patios, structures, and outdoor living areas receive a 3-5 year craftsmanship warranty, depending on the service.
All appliances and products receive the manufacturer’s warranty.
Are your staff sub-contractors or employees?
All of our staff are employees.

In PA, this includes Broomall, Bryn Mawr, Chadds Ford, Garnet Valley, Glen Mills, Havertown, Kennett Square, Malvern, Media, Springfield, Swarthmore, Wayne & West Chester.
