Project Overview
Cider Mill Landscapes recently completed a modern large-format patio installation for a newly constructed home in Garnet Valley, PA. The homeowners wanted a clean, contemporary outdoor space that would feel cohesive with the home’s architecture while creating a strong foundation for future landscaping.
With spring approaching, this project highlights the value of getting your landscape thoughtfully designed and planned ahead of the season, ensuring outdoor spaces are ready to enjoy as soon as the weather turns.
Design & Material Selection
Because the home features a modern architectural style, the patio design needed to match that scale and simplicity. Oversized, light-gray porcelain pavers were selected to complement the home’s clean lines and contemporary aesthetic. The larger paver format helps the patio feel proportional to the size of the house, avoiding a segmented or busy appearance.
Laid in a precise, modern pattern, the large-format pavers create crisp visual lines and an open, uncluttered look. Their neutral tone provides a timeless backdrop for outdoor furniture while allowing future plantings, lighting, or hardscape additions to stand out.
A darker paver border was incorporated to subtly frame the patio and define the space. This contrast adds refinement and reinforces the geometry of the design without detracting from its minimalist appeal.
Functional Transitions & Layout
To enhance usability and visual depth, the patio includes a multi-step transition between the covered patio area and the open yard. This elevation change creates a natural flow between spaces while adding architectural interest. Rather than feeling divided, the backyard now functions as a cohesive extension of the home.
The layout was intentionally designed to support both everyday use and future enhancements, making it easy to expand the landscape with plantings or lighting as the homeowners continue to develop the property.
Built for Long-Term Performance
Porcelain pavers were chosen not only for their modern appearance but also for their durability and low-maintenance performance. Resistant to moisture, staining, weather, and wear, they are an ideal solution for homeowners who want a high-end look without ongoing upkeep.
This makes the patio especially well suited for new construction homes, where long-term performance and design longevity are key considerations.
The Final Result
The finished patio now serves as both a functional gathering space and a visual anchor for the backyard. Clean lines, thoughtful scaling, and durable materials come together to create an outdoor living area that feels intentional, modern, and ready for spring.
This project showcases Cider Mill Landscapes’ ability to design and build contemporary outdoor spaces that align seamlessly with new construction homes, balancing aesthetics, function, and long-term value.
