What to Expect From Your Free Patio Consultation
Landscape design consultations are very important. In a sense, they set up your entire project.
Discuss Design Ideas
Your patio consultation allows us to open lines of communication with you. We will look to discover answers to questions such as:
- What does your yard look like now?
- What vision do you have for this space in the future?
- Whether you want to focus on entertaining or personal space?
It is important that you share these ideas during your initial consultations so we can acheive the results you’re looking for.
Surveying the Outdoor Space
The initial visit allows your patio designer to get a good look at the space they’ll be working with. This is perhaps the most important part of the consultation. The scope of your yard essentially determines what can and can’t be done in terms of landscaping and hardscaping.
Measurements taken will help landscapers create a model of what the finished space will potentially look like.
Estimate & Deliverables
Creating a budget beforehand will make this simpler. If the estimate is above your budget we can discuss areas to remove, or how to roll out the project in phases.
In addition to an estimate you’ll receive:
- Digital renderings
- Supporting information
- Images

What Our Clients Say About Us
I highly recommend Cider Mill Landscapes. The entire crew is knowledgable and fantastic. The trees they put in for us were large and very nice. We did a total remodel of our backyard and it looks amazing! They designed our backyard and delivered what they promised.

What a team! The entire crew who cleared invasive vines & installed 4 beautiful trees on our property went up & beyond – working hard for 3 days. We are thrilled with the final design! I love looking out of my windows & seeing the gorgeous, lush row of trees now!

FAQs For Our Patio Projects
Quick answers to questions you may have.
What is the process for making my yard functional as well as beautiful?
Upon the first consultation, we listen more than speak. A big part of our process is a well thought out design that takes every aspect of a project into account, from practicality to functionality and aesthetics.
Why do I need a landscape designer? Can’t I do this on my own?
In doing this for many years, and living and breathing it every day, there are a lot of things that go into a design. Like every other industry, there are things that an “amateur” or someone that doesn’t design on a daily basis will overlook.
There are intricate details that we know to implement into a design. As well as different aspects of nature or a landscape that we know to factor in that a homeowner may not. Especially with outdoors, there are a lot of things to take into consideration.
Do you build pergolas, decks, arbors and other outdoor structures?
Absolutely. These structures can be pre-engineered kits that we implement into a clients landscape or a custom-built structure.
Do you do outdoor kitchens and living spaces?
Absolutely. From design and build from scratch to updating and modifying existing spaces. We consider ourselves specialists in the outdoor living space arena. Regardless of the size of the project, the key to a good job is a well thought out design and plan. We custom design every project.
Do you work with budgets?
We do work with budgets. Making sure we design to accommodate our clients is a big part of the process.
Can I get an estimate over the phone?
In most cases, the answer is no. We need a site visit and accurate measurements.
Can you perform installations if I already have plans?
Yes, however, we may make suggestions or edits to the plan.
We will not implement another design if we feel like the structural integrity of a project has been compromised or under engineered. We also will not implement a design that has horticultural or product flaws.
Are you licensed?
We are a licensed business and a licensed Home Improvement Contractor. We are also BBB accredited
Are you insured?
We are fully insured.
What guarantees do you offer on installations?
New plant installations have a one year warranty.
Patios, structures, and outdoor living areas receive a 3-5 year craftsmanship warranty, depending on the service.
All appliances and products receive the manufacturer’s warranty
Are your staff sub-contractors or employees?
All of our staff are employees.
Who manages my project? Are Bob and Hillary ever onsite?
Every project is managed very closely by Bob or Hillary. Site visits are typically daily. Every site has a skilled and experienced foreman very closely managing every aspect of a project.
Job meetings are held every morning. We utilize technology, a picture sharing app, to communicate daily, and make sure notes are taken and filed throughout the entire process.
What should I budget for my landscape design and installation project?
There is no way to answer this. Every job depends on the size and scope
Can I hire subcontractors to do some of the work instead of your company?
The answer to this is case by case.
We have our own subcontractors but are always willing to work with others to make sure the project gets done.
If a client has a contractor they know and trust, we will absolutely work with them
When I accept your proposal, what is the next step?
We figure out a good time to complete the work and finalize all details to ensure a perfect finished product. Schedules can vary depending on weather, material ordering and convenience to a client.
Can you do the work in stages or phases?
We do many jobs in phases.
Frequently we will provide a full property plan and implement it over a couple of years depending on the size of the property and the complexity of the design. The key is planning ahead and making sure you execute the phases in a way that makes sense and is efficient.
For example, you don’t want to install a patio or outdoor living space that blocks you from getting equipment to another part of the property where another phase of work will be completed.
After I sign the contract, how soon can you start?
That depends on the time of year, and the size of the project.
How much time does the entire process take?
Unfortunately, there is no way to answer this. Every job depends on the size and scope
What are your payment terms?
For smaller projects, and repeat maintenance clients, payment is due upon completion. For mid-size and larger projects, we take 1/3 up front and the rest upon completion. For projects larger than $50k, we take 1/3 up front, 1/3 when approximately half-way done, and the rest upon completion. Typically we make sure a client is 100% satisfied before taking a final payment
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash and check. If a credit card is requested we charge a 3.5% finance fee (our cost from the merchant service provider)
Do you consider yourselves a "green" company?
Of course.
We also try to be as organic as possible. It is important to keep up with the trends and technologies of the green industry. It is constantly evolving and changing
Do you have a minimum contract?
Not really. Typically our smallest jobs start at $2000.
Our Management Team
Every project is managed very closely by Bob or Hillary. Site visits are typically daily.
