Pool Landscapers

Let Us Design Your Pool Deck & Landscaping

A well-designed pool not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of your outdoor space but also increases the overall value of your property. It serves as an inviting centerpiece for social gatherings, family fun, or personal relaxation. With the right landscaping, a pool can seamlessly integrate with your garden, creating a harmonious environment that complements the natural beauty of your yard. Whether you envision tranquil evenings by the water or lively poolside parties, a pool is an investment in both leisure and lifestyle.

Cider Mill Landscapes will help bring your dream pool deck to life, from finding the right plants to surround the pool to installing hardscaping where you can set up lounge and entertainment areas. A fence can add privacy and safety to your pool area while enhancing its overall aesthetic. If you have an existing pool, we’re happy to make your space feel more complete with updated landscaping or new water features. If you are looking for a complete pool installation, we will work alongside a pool builder to ensure your complete space is transformed.

Each project is managed daily by the owner, Bob McCusker, ensuring attention to detail and a personal touch.

Beale Pool Before and After

Pool Deck Design & Installation

When designing a backyard oasis with a pool, it’s about more than just the water itself. You’ll want to consider your options for hardscaping, landscaping & more. Whether you have an existing pool or are starting from scratch, Cider Mill Landscapes is ready to help you transform your space.

Pool Landscaping

When choosing the right landscape design around a pool, our team will thoughtfully design and execute a plan that will work well for your space. This may include:

  • Opting for plants that require minimal maintenance and are resistant to chlorine and saltwater.
  • Selecting plants that do not shed a lot of leaves or flowers to reduce pool maintenance.
  • Considering taller plants, hedges, or trees that provide privacy without shedding too much debris into the pool.
  • Avoiding plants with invasive root systems that could damage pool structures or plumbing.
  • Choosing plants that thrive in your local climate and are suited to the microenvironment around the pool.

Pool Hardscaping

Will you want a lounge area with a fire pit near your pool? Or maybe a kitchen and bar with a covered dining area? Your options are endless, and our team will walk you through every decision.

When it comes to selecting the materials for your pool deck, you’ll want to choose something that is safe when wet. While travertine is a popular option around pools, it can still be slippery. We’ll help you achieve your desired look with the right materials.

Custom Water Features

Give your pool a unique focal point by adding water features, like fountains or waterfalls. We will ensure any features complement the pool design and landscaping.

The sound of running water can create a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere, masking unwanted noise from your surroundings. Plus, waterfalls and fountains can provide playful elements for children and adults alike, enhancing the pool experience.

Pool Lighting

Adding lights in and around your pool ensures you can safely enjoy your space when the sun goes down. We often recommend a combination of pathway lights and overhead string lights to ensure you can easily navigate from your home to your pool.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hardscaping options are available for pool areas?

We offer a variety of hardscaping options to enhance your pool area, including paver patios, natural stone decking, retaining walls, custom coping, built-in seating, fire features, and walkways. These elements not only add function and style but also help create a cohesive outdoor living space around your pool.

What is the required fence height for a pool?

Each township sets its own fence requirements for pools. Most require a minimum 4-foot-tall fence with a self-latching gate. Some also require a survey.

How long does it take to complete a pool design and installation project?

The full process—from design to completed installation—can take several months to over a year, depending on your township’s permitting timelines, project complexity, and material availability. Design and permitting often require the most time, while construction typically takes 6 to 10 weeks once everything is approved.

Who pulls the permits for a pool?

In most cases, we handle permitting. However, some municipalities require the homeowner to submit directly. We’ll let you know what’s needed based on your location.

What’s the process for installing a pool?

After finalizing the design, we begin with permitting and approvals. Once those are in place, excavation begins, followed by pool installation and surrounding landscape or hardscape work.

Why do I need a landscape designer? Can’t I do this on my own?

In doing this for many years, and living and breathing it every day, there are a lot of things that go into a design. Like every other industry, there are things that an “amateur” or someone that doesn’t design on a daily basis will overlook. There are intricate details that we know to implement into a design. As well as different aspects of nature or a landscape that we know to factor in that a homeowner may not. Especially with outdoors, there are a lot of things to take into consideration.

Do you work with budgets?

We do work with budgets. Making sure we design to accommodate our clients is a big part of the process.

Can I get an estimate over the phone?

In most cases, the answer is no. We need a site visit and accurate measurements.

Can you perform installations if I already have plans?

Yes, however, we may make suggestions or edits to the plan. We will not implement another design if we feel like the structural integrity of a project has been compromised or under-engineered. We also will not implement a design that has horticultural or product flaws.

What are your payment terms?

For smaller projects, and repeat maintenance clients, payment is due upon completion. For mid-size and larger projects, we take 1/3 up front and the rest upon completion. For projects larger than $50k, we take 1/3 up front, 1/3 when approximately half-way done, and the rest upon completion. Typically we make sure a client is 100% satisfied before taking a final payment.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash and check. If a credit card is requested we charge a 3.5% finance fee (our cost from the merchant service provider.)

What guarantees do you offer on installations?

New plant installations have a one year warranty.

Patios, structures, and outdoor living areas receive a 3-5 year craftsmanship warranty, depending on the service.

All appliances and products receive the manufacturer’s warranty.

Are your staff sub-contractors or employees?

All of our staff are employees.

Which areas do you serve?

We work with clients throughout Delaware County, Chester County, Montgomery County & New Castle County. In PA, this includes Broomall, Bryn Mawr, Chadds Ford, Garnet Valley, Glen Mills, Havertown, Kennett Square, Malvern, Media, Springfield, Swarthmore, Wayne & West Chester.
