At Cider Mill Landscapes, we love a challenge, and this backyard delivered.
The homeowners had a large, steep hill that made the yard feel disconnected and unusable. But they had a vision: they wanted a pool — not just any pool, but a true backyard destination.
Turning a Slope Into Structure
Before adding features, we had to transform the land itself. Using large natural boulders, we built tiered retaining walls that reshaped the hillside into strong, functional levels.
This gave us:
- Stable, flat spaces for entertaining
- Improved drainage and erosion control
- A natural stone aesthetic that blends with the surroundings
The slope that once limited the yard became its greatest asset.
The Infinity Edge Pool
With the structure in place, we installed a stunning infinity edge pool that takes full advantage of the elevation. A built-in slide adds family fun, while integrated lighting and a nearby spa create a resort-style atmosphere day and night.
Designed for Entertaining
The upper patio features a full outdoor kitchen beneath a pavilion, along with a fireplace and sitting wall for gathering. Below, a pergola and hot tub extend off the pool area, flowing naturally into open lawn and recreation spaces.
Beyond the Pool
While the infinity edge pool is the showpiece, the transformation extends across the entire property.
A large natural pond adds a peaceful focal point and balances the energy of the pool area with something quieter and more organic. Just beyond that, a basketball court creates space for active play, making the yard just as functional for kids and teens as it is for entertaining adults.
A dedicated fire pit area offers a cozy gathering space for cooler evenings, while open lawn areas provide flexibility for games, lounging, or hosting larger events. Carefully placed pathways connect each zone, guiding movement naturally from one space to the next.
The result is a backyard designed not just for swimming, but for living.
Built to Last
Comprehensive drainage, irrigation, landscape lighting, privacy screening, and thoughtful plant design ensure the space is as functional as it is beautiful.
What was once a steep, unusable hill is now a private, multi-level backyard resort.
